Kashmir
The valley of Kashmir echoed with "la ilaha illallah" as people gathered on the streets to witness Allah's power.
- Saturday 9:30 AM India time
It's hard to imagine what Kashmir looks like now, just 3 weeks later.... SubhanAllah
With some of the surrounding villages gone
With hundreds of homeless people walking around aimlessly, traumatized
With the neighbor's homes down to dust
With all most all the walls cracked
With terrified mothers whose young children were away, unsure if there'll ever see them again, unaware of their safety
With mothers who are still paranoid to let their family out of sight
With family and friends, waiting in fear for the after shocks to end, sitting outside in the rain for more than 48 hrs
With chaos
With trauma
With helplessness
With terror
With anxiety
- Please make du'a
"Allah says "Remind, for truly reminders benefit the believers", so in that spirit, I just wanted to mention that the Prophet (pbuh) said that "Anyone for whom Allah intends good, He causes that person to suffer from affliction" (Bukhari) - because its a means for Allah to get closer to His afflicted servant, ie so that theyll turn to Him more sincerely, and He'll turn to them as well" - Zacharia Al Khatib
So true, SubhanAllah everyone we talked to in Kashmir is a bit more closer to Allah than we left then 3 weeks ago.
Pro: Alhamdulilah At least now kashmiris remember Allah in their otherwise busy lives.

You need a earthquake to destroy everything before you can come closer to Allah? What about those people who have already passed away, it's too late for them. And it's not just a reminder for Kashmiris it's a reminder for Muslims, Non-Muslims and people all over the world, that there is a force greater than them.
The people that passed away...
One of my brothers friends...his father had gone back to visit Kashmir and passed away during the earthquake. Subhanallah...
Anon is right this is yet another reminder for everyone.
to anonymous: yes, sometimes you do need a calamity to bring you closer to the Lord ... something that literally turns your world upside down, so that you realize that things aren't in your control, that its actually God whos running things, as you said - and so you should always turn to Him, and seek His protection and help... also... what more powerful reminder could there possibly be that no one can possibly help you except by God's permission? we're all in the same boat - just weak and powerless beings - and when you literally see that with your own eyes - when the poor and the weak are the same, their houses nothing but piles of rubble, their families in the street... then you realize that nothing can save you but God.
as for your second comment, about the dead people: everyone dies. whether you die asleep in bed or in an earthquake or from illness its all the same.
It would be nice if He could make His point without all the pain and suffering.
i bet some of the people there put their faith and trust in god right before the quake hit
but hey, you know what we say. there are far better things in the afterlife for them.
im very surprised by your comments, anon.. have you watched the news? if you turn on to any channel and watch any interview, youll see the effect this religion has had on these peoples lives, and realize that its the biggest possible blessing. What happened in New Orleans when disaster struck? people fell apart. it was like madness. now look at this. interviews: they all say "Alhamdullilah... we thank God... things are okay here, God willing, we will remain patient, and He will help us through this" and so forth. Its a testament to those peoples faith that God chose to try them with such a calamity - because He only tests those He loves, and the fact that He tested them in such a manner and that theyve remained patient only emphasizes the depth and strength of their belief.
it says something for us in the west that we watch from thousands of miles away, doing nothing, and we cant handle the test. it says more that we're not being tested in even the most minor way.
god loved New orlean's bourbon street too.
It's easy for us over here to say it's a test, when we aren't being tested, it's easy for us to say it's good because it reminds us of God, when again we don't get the actual reminder but just get to watch it, it's so hard for us to talk (including me) when we have the easy life and can't imagine what the others are going through
Sorry for everyone's losses. I pray for all those who passed away, and all those who knew people who passed away.
amen to that, latest anon.
agree w/ u 100%.
