The angel of death visits each and every person FIVE times a day, waiting. Waiting for the permission of Allah (swt) to grab that soul and when he doesn't receive it, he leaves only to come back again.

And finally when he does come and gets permission, if its a disbelieveing soul or a soul that does not recognize the existence of God, he comes in the ugliest form, with a nasty smell and with flames coming out of all hairs on his body.

And the dying person sees the angel of death coming and it was mentioned by Prophet Ibrahim (as) that upon his insistence on seeing this form, he couldn't take the sight and fainted. After gaining consciousness, Prophet Ibrahim described that it was punishment enough just to look at angel of death in its ugly form.

Of course, in this case, permission wasn't granted, and though Ibrahim (as) moved the knife over Ismael's throat, the knife did not cut...

You reach a heightened awareness and you begin to sense every atom in praise and submission of Allah. not his exact words, but basically...
